Job Description:

Community Smiles Dental (CSD) is seeking an energetic and compassionate team-oriented part-time dental assistant to support our Waukesha locations.

This role is part time that would work:

Monday: 7:30am-12pm

Tuesday: 7:30am-12pm

Friday: 7:30am-2pm

About the Job:

Our dental assistants play an important role in patient care: they primarily assist our dentists chairside and provide professional and compassionate care to our patients. By working collaboratively, our dental assistants ensure that our team stays on time throughout the day and that from chairside to room turnover to sterilization we are set up for success as a team.

Mission Accountabilities:

Major Accountabilities:

1.) Provides direct chairside assistance to the dentist during procedures, ensuring patient comfort and maintaining a smooth and efficient clinical workflow.

2.) Maintains strict adherence to infection control protocols by properly sterilizing instruments, disinfecting treatment areas, and preparing operatories for patient care.

3.) Communicates clearly and compassionately with patients and their families to explain procedures, provide pre- and post-operative instructions, and support overall patient experience and satisfaction.

4.) Works to ensure the confidentiality and security of patient records by adhering to HIPAA regulations and office privacy protocols. Maintain strict discretion when handling personal health information in all verbal, written, and electronic communications.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties and responsibilities under the following major responsibility areas: daily operations, chairside assisting, patient care, and infection control.
  • Daily operations responsibilities include:
  • Arrives at 7:30am to set up first operatories, sterilization and ensure prepared for morning huddle at 7:50am.
  • Working collaboratively as a team with CSD dentists, hygienists and other dental assistants to ensure all patients are seen on time and in between, infection control routines are followed in regards to room turnover and sterilization.
  • Ensures that rooms are properly stocked and organized, dental materials and supplies are organized and put away and contributes to an organized sterilization and lab ensuring all instruments and handpieces are properly put away.
  • Ensures that rooms are properly shut down and sterilization is cleaned up at the end of the clinic day and that patient schedules for the following day are prepped and ready for huddle.
  • Patient care and chairside assisting responsibilities include:
  • Models “Tell Show Do” at every appointment with patients to educate them about their dental healthcare.
  • Assists multiple dentists with chairside treatment of CSD patients including children, pregnant women, patients with special health care needs, and adults.
  • Can proficiently set up rooms for all procedures within our scope of service and assist dentists with those procedures.
  • Works with a sense of urgency to ensure rooms are set up and taken down in a timely fashion, patient appointments occur according to schedule and all patient note templates are created before seating the next patient.
  • Takes diagnostic radiographs following CSD’s Radiology Protocol.
  • Accurately charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment as directed by the dentist.
  • Delivers thorough and easy to understand post-operative instructions to patients and patients’ parents/guardians at the end of each appointment including medications and referrals for specialty care.
  • Facilitates pre-authorizations, adult treatment contracts and referrals for specialty care in collaboration with clinical manager and dentist.
  • Partners with patient care coordinators to help ensure future appointments are set up and scheduled accurately.
  • Infection control responsibilities include:
  • Assist in compliance with policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control, safety, and HIPAA issues.
  • Supports clinical cleanliness and infection control through thorough room turnover and following manufacturer guidelines as they relate to proper instrument sterilization.
  • Follows and performs OSHA waterline safety processes.
  • Follows clinic guidelines in terms of PPE usage to protect self and others from infectious diseases.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Education/Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Ability to understand, demonstrate and support the mission, vision and core values of Community Smiles Dental.
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work or use Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite and electronic dental health records software.

Preferred:

  • Completion of a technical college certificate in dental assisting.
  • At least one year of experience working as a dental assistant.
  • Prior experience in a community-based or nonprofit sector organization.
  • Proficient in Dentrix or comparable dental electronic health record system and
  • Familiar with navigating in the Google Office Suite.
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish to effectively communicate orally in Spanish with patients and families including the use of dental terminology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and instruction.
  • Ability to contribute to the priorities and needs of the team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in regards to patient sensitive and protected information.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols including infection control standards.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task throughout the day.
  • Ability to meet the work hours and schedules of the position.
  • Ability to work wearing multiple layers of PPE for extended periods of the work day.
  • Ability to work with a computer and frequently look at computer monitors throughout the day.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods throughout the clinic day.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or slide 10-20lbs at a time.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent moderate to high noise levels.
  • Ability to work in close proximity with other team members and patients.
  • Ability to effectively respond to varying situations using logical reasoning and decision making throughout the clinic day.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions to accomplish small motor skills.
